Getting Rid of Age Spots

There may come a time when you may observe brown patches on your hands, shoulders and skins. These are better termed as age spots and are medically termed as Seborhoeic Keratoses or Lentigos. When the skin is left unprotected for a very lengthy term under direct sunlight or UV rays then the skin tends to produce a substance called melanin for protection. This substance leaves a patchy mark upon your hands, faces, back and shoulder.

 Besides, the UV rays there are several other factors that do cause the age spots. For instance, psoralen substances found in foods such as parsnips, parsley and lime. When you go out unprotected after consuming these foods then your skin may become too sensitive and may burn easily. Even an application of perfumes or lotions, containing bergamot oils or musk, upon uncovered skin areas may develop age spots. Additionally, certain antibiotics may also cause you to develop such spot marks. These include diuretics, chlorpromazine and tetracycline. Heredity also contributes to excess melanin production.

 The easiest approach to avoid such spots is by always using the sunscreens for protecting the skin. OTC medications can prove to be helpful for few age spots which also not much darker. But for persistence age spot outbreaks your physician may require to treat you through several effective measures. These measures may include bleaching creams; fade creams, medicated creams, chemical peels, camouflage makeup, cryotherapy and laser therapy. These are very effective treatments for eliminating the age spots and for rejuvenating the original skin state.

 However, as the famous phrase goes out  – ‘prevention is better than cure’. As such prevention is a much better option for avoiding such age marks. This would further eliminate the hassle of going through various approaches and tryouts. Just keep the following points in mind for ensuring effective preventions –

    *  Make a habit of applying sunscreens on regularly exposed areas. Prefer using typical SPF 15 sunscreens. In case, you see the emergence of any of these markings then consider shifting to higher SPF sunscreen lotions.
    *  Try avoiding tanning beds and prefer using protective clothes while working directly under sunlight.

*  Consider re-applying the sunscreens after excessive sweating or swimming or bathing.
    * Thoroughly wash your hands after consuming foods that contain psoralen and re-apply the sunscreens before leaving.
    *  Consider applying your perfumes and lotions that are generally hidden or are not directly exposed to sun.

 These steps will certainly help you in preventing the age spots. However, consider your skin’s nature and type before making any approaches for treatment. The skin is the most complicated part of our bodies and requires enough care and prevention from being directly spoilage thereby ruining your appearance.
